Gira

Ongoing Project

Gira is an assistive kitchen system that enables people with limited motor function to perform strenuous kitchen tasks, including carrying, draining, washing, and transferring food from heavy pots, pans and bowls.

Gira’s aim is to allow an aging population to remain independent in their kitchens, and by extension their homes, as they become more likely to experience symptoms of motor and mobility related impairments.

Kitchen Mapping // Immersive Experience

Kitchen Action Pain Points

In order to identify the most strenuous kitchen activities for the hands and wrists, I immersed and recorded myself in the process of cooking two meals, from start to finish, including washing the dishes.

Defining the System

This framework consists of actions, body parts, objects, and locations logged during the kitchen mapping exercise. This data was then used to set the requirements for the product + design system.
